A quarter of repossessed mobile homes are in good shape, half need cosmetic work and the rest are in poor condition, said Ferguson, who now is listing bank-owned homes in Centreville, Reston and Sterling. Though the homes are priced as much as 17 percent below comparable units in the neighborhood, not all buyers can afford the repairs that are needed, he said.

The inventory of mortgages in foreclosure reached 0.99 percent of all loans in the nation during the fourth quarter of 1996, or slightly less than the record 1.08 percent in 1987, according to the Mortgage Bankers Association of America.

My children were dying to go on vacation to their favorite amusement park. I didnt have a lot of time to plan the trip, so I called the concierge at hotel that was close to the park and booked a room with him. I explained the situation and told him that I would like to get tickets to the park for the three days we would be there. He assured me that he would take care of all of the details and all I had to worry about was packing for my trip. My mind was put at east by the concierge so I spent the rest of the time helping my kids get ready for their big vacation. They wanted to pack all kinds of strange things for their trip. My son, who was only four years old, was telling me how he had plans to put his goldfish in his suitcase for the trip. I tried to explain to him that the fish were not supposed to go with us and that we would leave him at the house. He didnt understand so I spent the next several weeks assuring him that somebody would come to the house to feed his fish. I felt really bad for my daughter because she wanted to be able to take the family dog with us. There is something about kids and family pets. They want them to go everywhere. I assured them that their grandmother would take really good care of the dog and the fish and tried to get them to focus on packing other things that could actually go into their bags. They were both allowed to have two toys each and that was it. We weren’t even letting them bring video games because we wanted them to do a little reading on the plane ride. After all, it was the middle of the school year and they were going to have to make up some school work for taking this trip. When we finally got packed at arrived at the hotel I was pleased to see that concierge services was there waiting for us. They even had the tickets that I requested and handed them to me in an envelope with my keys. I couldn’t believe that a whole days worth of tickets were free. I am not really sure how he managed to get that deal but I guess that is one of the perks of staying at a high end hotel. The kids were really excited to be there and asked to look all around the hotel while we unpacked. I let them go exploring but told them that they had to be back within a half an hour.
